I hate this plane. It means lot of negative things in my past.
The plane was never released, because it didn't reach the minimun quality for xplane11.
I must admit that it is my worst work. Not because the details, that they are there, and the time involved in it, but because I was tired of this plane.
The process of building this one, was long, and not continue in time. I had to change several times of internal projects and put the plane in a halt for twice as my help was needed in other important stuff. And decisions where right in that area.
It toke more than a year to build it, and what it toke my energy off was the 3DCockpit. Not the model, but the screens, as I had to make with 2D programs all the masks and stuff to simulate the systems of the plane. Something tremendously boring and delicate. Xplane is prepared for boeing system graphics, not Cessna or other brands.
Also I didn't know exactly how to deal with PBR materials. I made them with 2D programs. Didn't know the existance of a 3D painter as Substance Painter.
I always thought that this plane didn't pass the test, because the texture. If I ever know Substance Painter when I was painting it.. I think you could use this plane in xplane11.30
This plane meaned the farewell from Laminar. Something very sad from someone that spent 8 years inside of the company and gave it all to make the best looking airplanes I could. But I have to say that the decision to be out was ok for me, because I could not stand building more planes without deep systems programmed. Something that had to be done by anyone else and that is not the task of Laminar Research. So no resentment because of that.
When I started the Siai Marchetti, the next plane I built after this one, I was seaching a little, the redemption of not beeing able to achieve the best results in PBR materials in Xplane11 default planes. All I needed is someone to point me in the right direction to use Substance Painter (Thanks Alberto to let me discover such magnificent program). I would loved to just make all the texture materials in XPlane in laminar and not model any more.
Who knows if you will see an CitationX from Laminar in the future. Maybe it will be my same model with different texture. Maybe more complex systems than default ones. What I can say is that even beeing a job I cannot be proud of, I finished it and made it flyable. It was my last plane built for XPlane in Laminar. And I know that I won't model this one again, because I hate it (even it is beautiful in reality)
